The "Textbook Issue"

Abstract

The next issue of the Journal of Music History Pedagogy (vol. 1, no. 2, Spring 2011) will focus on one of the main fixtures of music history teaching—the survey textbook. Contributors scheduled for the next issue include Mark Evan Bonds, J. Peter Burkholder, John Walter Hill, and Kristy Swift; reviewers scheduled for the issue include José Bowen, James Briscoe, Tony Bussard, and Jan Herlinger. Readers are invited to contribute their thoughts on the first issue in the form of Letters to the Editor; the editors are committed to printing letters which would be of interest to our readers in future issues.

 

Author Biography

C. Matthew Balensuela
C. Matthew Balensuela is a Professor of Music at DePauw University. He is the co-author with David Russell Williams of Music Theory from Boethius to Zarlino: A Bibliography and Guide (Pendragon Press, 2007), which won the Duckles Award from the Music Library Association (2009) and edited the Ars cantus mensurabilis mensurata per modos iuris (University of Nebraska Press, 1994). Among his publications are articles and reviews on early music history and theory for The New Grove Dictionary of Music, Acta musicologica, and The Journal of Musicological Research.
