Abstract
The 2013 conference of the East Asian Regional Association of the International Musicological Society provided an opportunity to explore issues related to teaching music history in this part of the world. While the theme of conference suggested that Asian scholarship was bringing about a fundamental change in the ways in which academics view their work and music, contributors to the roundtable describe some challenges to teaching in Asia, but attitudes towards Western classical music among students remaining strong.
