Abstract

On May 23-25, 2019, the second “Pedagogy into Practice: Teaching Music Theory in the Twenty-First Century†conference took place in Santa Barbara, California. Sponsored by the Gail Boyd de Stwolinski Center for Music Theory Pedagogy, the conference offered papers, workshops, and panels on a variety of music theory pedagogy topics.

Author Biography

Scott Dirkse

Scott Dirkse received his PhD in musicology from the University of California, Santa Barbara, with a dissertation in the field of music history pedagogy. He holds degrees in piano performance and pedagogy from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and the University of South Carolina, as well as a music teaching credential.  Scott is a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music who has presented at the national conferences for CMS, MTNA, and NCKP and has had his work published in Clavier Companion, American Music Teacher, the Journal of Music Theory Pedagogy, and the Journal of Music History Pedagogy. He has been a lecturer and adjunct professor at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and Bakersfield College.
