Graduate Education Committee

The Graduate Education Committee's charge is to serve as a liaison between the AMS and representatives of institutions with graduate programs in musicology; to foster communication among programs; and to provide guidance as to the role the AMS can play in graduate education. It conducts activities at the AMS Annual Meeting each year, and publishes regular reports in the AMS Newsletter. Click here for a list of current committee members.

The GEC encourages AMS members to read carefully the Council of Graduate Schools’ 2004 “Resolution Regarding Graduate Scholars, Fellows, Trainees and Assistants.” Institutions may not require a response to their offers before 15 April. Those who learn of violations of this important principle should contact the Committee chairs, David Grayson ( and Mary Ann Smart (
