The Rocky Mountain Chapter of the AMS is pleased to announce a call for papers for the Annual Meeting of the chapter on March 23-24, 2018, at the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ. The conference will be held jointly with the Southwest Chapter of the Society for Ethnomusicology and the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Society for Music Theory.

Professor John Roeder, University of British Columbia Music Division, will present the conference keynote address, entitled “Comparing Musical Cycles Across the World.”

The Program Committee invites proposals from established scholars and advanced students for individual papers (20 minutes + 10-minute discussion); organized sessions of 3-4 papers on a single topic; or roundtable discussions on musicological topics. For individual papers, please submit an anonymized paper title and abstract of 250 words or less attached to an email providing the author’s name and institutional affiliation (if apropos). According to chapter bylaws any paper submitted by an undergraduate or a master’s student must be accompanied by a faculty letter of endorsement (not submitted to the review committee with the abstract).

Abstracts should clearly indicate the problem to be addressed, any conclusions the author has drawn, and the paper’s contribution to musicological scholarship. Proposals for themed panels should include an abstract for each panelist as well as one for the session as a whole. Conference papers will be chosen by the selection committee through a blind review process. There will be a prize for the best student paper.

Please email proposals for papers and panels to Chapter President John T. Brobeck at brobeck@email.arizona.edu.
