Letter from AMS President Martha Feldman

Dear members,
I write with a heavy heart to report that yesterday the AMS Board of Directors decided to
rescind D. Kern Holoman’s status of Honorary Member of the Society, effective immediately.
We categorically condemn sexual misconduct. The Board’s unprecedented action was not
taken lightly, and reflects the seriousness of the present situation. This is especially difficult
and painful considering the enormous efforts on behalf of the Society that Professor
Holoman has undertaken over a period of more than three decades.

In the coming weeks the Board will communicate further regarding proactive steps the
Society can take to combat sexual misconduct and better protect and restore victims.
